Opinions!

I need some opinions. Alexiel has a couple lacings in the front of the corset..and I have been debating whether or not to actually put them in.

You can barely see them on the front there. It would mean adding about 8 more grommets straight down the front of the corset. I was intending on putting them in, but I'm so proud of the corset at the moment that I am afraid that adding these decorative grommets and tie might weaken the fabric I used more then it needs to be..and also take the chance of potential screwing something up when I add the holes.

So opinions! Do you think I should add them for accuracy sake? Or just leave my corset the way it is?

Since they are so hard to see in the image anyway I am almost tempted to just pretend they don't exist. The Alexiels that I have seen on coscom are about 50/50 in either doing them or not doing them..and some go a completely different route like a zipper down the front. So I wanted to see what you all thought before I made a final decision.

EDIT: After discovering a small hole in the fabric on one of the seams I have decided not to add the grommets in the front. It is too risky. This PVC type fabric is too prone to tearing and with all the pressure this corset it going to be under, I can't risk having more holes in it. I hate to not be accurate but I hate the thing falling apart even more. *sigh*

Maybe if I remake it using a stronger vinyl or something I will go for accuracy...now I have to figure out how to fix that hole and prevent others.

Knowing what an accuracy freak you are I don't think you'll be truly satisfied with the costume until you do add lacing. I'd do a test on some scrap fabric and use the smallest eyelets possible (so as to keep the fabric as stable as possible). If you're thinking of entering her in craftsmanship (YOU BETTER!!!) it's the little details like this that really make a costume stand out.

I think if I had used anything other then this fabric I would have added the grommets. But this PVC type vinyl stuff tears almost as soon as you stretch it. I've done all I can to treat it to try and prevent that, but nothing really is a permanent fix. I'm afraid if I give it more places to potentially run then I'll be in trouble. So i've decided to forgo accuracy just this once u_u

We're doing the masquerade at Otakon, but I'll probably enter her at a con myself in the future. Maybe even DragonCon if I get up the courage.

Make two small strips of vinyl... probably about 1/2" each, just make sure they can cover the grommets your going to use, and interface them ((similar to making carrier loops on a belt buckle))

Then punch the grommet holes into that, add your grommets, and topstitch the sides down to the corset front. It'll keep the integrity of the garment in tact, as well as add the details you want.

Hopefully I make sense ^^;;

Oooh that does..so don't poke through the actual corset..just make a "fake front" essentially. Might just do that.

yupyups! You got it! I've done it plenty of times before, and it'll look the way you want it too as well ^^
