Sounds like you are on the right track. You're not in full remission yet. (Only a year in remission and it takes five for "full", IIRC.) So I don't see why it would be cut. Have you investigated a private option, or is that possible? Have you talked to a lawyer to see what your legal rights are in this matter?
Worst case scenario: If you state your case to your doctors, they will usually work out some kind of payment plan with you. We did that for Chris's kidney stone, which cost us $2,000 out of pocket for the emergency room and lithotripsy. I don't know how that would work for $20,000/year in scans alone, but it's worth a shot.
