Tohmacon/Ichibancon

Okay, so Ichiban-Con is a convention in Charlotte on January 8-10th. First year convention. Not a whole lot of information on it, but the hotel is expensive. I was thinking about going down for maybe just Saturday just to check it out. Who all is thinking of going?

Reason I am wondering is Tohma-con was tentatively planned for that first weekend, January 1-3..until I realized it would be New Years Day..and I wasn't sure if people would be discouraged by that.

So here was my thought (Since so many were interested in going to Tohma-con).

What if we do it January 8-10th..and go to Ichiban Con on that Saturday as a group. Registration is cheep. $20 at the door for Saturday I believe. We could go, check out the con, have some fun, and still be able to do all the party stuff we planned for Tohma-con. And we wouldn't have to worry about anyone not being able to make it because of family obligations on the New Years holiday.

Please let me know your thoughts. Which is better for everyone? First weekend in Jan? Or second weekend in Jan? I also think New Years Day will be kind of rough for retail people to get off of work. Sometimes those are sale days.

I vote for the 8th-10th. I'll say tentatively I can come. It depends on me getting my car traded in this weekend, getting lower car insurance (which will happen with the trade in), selling off part of my time share before Christmas, and scrounging up the extra cash to come (I'll try pouting and being adorable with my grandparents over Christmas). I hopefully will have a job by then and will then have to work around that schedule, but no such luck yet. But I've had a major change of focus and hope that something will come my way soon. Hopey needs a job.

Apparently the hotel price includes free admission to theie big indoor water park. Not sure if I'll be going yet or not.

I was thinking of going to Ichibancon anyway (except I wasn't going to stay at the hosting hotel. I really should make those arrangements!

Either date works for me I just need enough of a heads up to get off. As for the con within a con ditto on the let know. I've never done a costume change in a car or at the con and it's been ages since i wore one up to a convention, that way i can dress for comfortable squished in car.

As always, I'm at the mercy of my work schedule. If I happen to have Ichibancon weekend off, I'll head over there as a day trip.

The Sleep Inn in that area is only $70 - 80/night and provides free brekkie and wi-fi. It's also close to the Great Wolfe Lodge. (Not walking distance, but a very short drive.)
