So confusing

I sure hope I'm doing all this right with the "Grant access" and "Subscribe" thing..if I'm not please someone let me know. I just click both figuring that is what I'm supposed to do. I'm guessing that is the same as adding a friend.

I'm doing my best to try and figure this out.
