AMA Convention Report

tohma2004I'm sitting here watching "The Voice" and decided it would be a good time to write up a little report on AMA. It was a good convention overall and despite the artist alley table, a fairly relaxing weekend which was something I think I needed.
My fire emblem group with Negative Dreamer and crew won "Best Master Performance" And "Best Overall Craftsmanship" so that was really cool. The skit was easy and..well lets be honest..required no practicing at all XD WHich was kind of a nice change.
But anyway, lets see how much I can remember..
I drove to the convention Thursday night after work. I got out of work early and went home to pick up the rest of my stuff. The car was stuffed to capacity. I then headed off and it was a fairly uneventful trip up. I arrived somewhere around 10PM after making fairly good time. I got unloaded, unpacked, ironed and relaxed in the room for awhile before heading to bed. It was kind of nice to only have 4 people in a hotel room LOL. It was me and Laura in one bed and Crystal and Katie in the other. We had two hotel rooms so there was about 4 in the other room too.
Friday
Woke up and went done to registration to get our badges. I got dressed in Shiki and Jenny went off to the convention center to see if they were letting artists set up while Laura and I went to see about getting my press badge. The badges weren't ready yet so we just got our artist alley stuff and headed to the con. I was a little disappointed to see that my table wasn't across from Kitsune Ink but I decided to just set it up and talk to the artists that were across from them to see about switching on Saturday. I unloaded the artist stuff from the car and Crystal started to help me set up. As soon as I started to put the scarves and towels on the table all of a sudden there was a crowd around my table.
And that was when the selling started. Artist Alley wasn't supposed to open until 12PM but at 11:15 I was already selling and my table was only about 1/3 set up. I sold out of my Soul Eater scarves, Chocobo towels, Fai scarf and a few other things before I was even open. Crystal and I hurried to get the rest of the stuff out and set up before another crowd showed up. People absolutely loved the items. The response to it was far greater then I had even anticipated.
After awhile I decided to head to the room, change into Miku and get something to eat. I then went back down to the table and basically froze because the con center was blasting the air conditioning. I sold out of a few more designs and a little bit of everything was selling from bags to shirts. It was far better then Animazement. It was a pretty quiet afternoon and then I got changed into Elizabeth and spent a few hours in that before changing back into Shiki so I could take down the table. We started shutting down around 8:30 and people were still buying as we were closing up. Then it was back to the room for some pizza and a little Shiki photoshoot where Crystal convinced some random congoers to lay on the ground and play "dead" XD. Stayed up and chatted for awhile before heading to bed.
Saturday
Woke up and got into Fai (infinity) to set up the table. It was a much quieter morning which I was kind of thankful for. Crystal got into Tomoyo and I told her she should go get judged at the hall costume contest. I kind of badgered her into it XD So she went off to get judged while I watched the table. At 11 she came back and I met up with my skit group for rehearsal and we ran through the skit twice on stage before I went back to my table. We got Jenny to decorate the Poke-box for our skit. Around 1:30 I got a text saying that ND and crew wanted to do a photoshoot at 2:30 so I headed to the room with Angie and got into Ashera. Unfortunetely there was a headdress malfunction and it took me a little longer to get ready then it should have but then I headed down stairs to meet up with the others for a photoshoot. Fire Lily joined us for the shoot with Refractor was kind enough to take pictures of. Then we headed to the con and I loomed around my table for awhile before going to judging/line-up. My wig was a tangled mess and kept having to get brushed out and eventually we just braided it after we got judged and before we went on stage. I hate long wigs -_-
We got judged, hung out with the other groups then got lined up and moved behind the stage. We were skit #7 and the skit went fairly well and people seemed to enjoy that Hector beat the crap out of the pokemon. LOL. And then it was just time to relax, watch the rest of the skits and wait for the awards. As they were announcing the hall costume awards, Crystal won a honorable mention but I knew she was sitting at my table so I jumped up and ran to the door to tell her since my table was right outside the main events door. I ushered her to the stage and flagged down Angela who was one of the judges so she could get Tikki to get Crystal's award. I then shuffled back to my group to wait for the skit awards.
We won Best Master performance and Best Overall craftsmanship which was definitely cool. I didn't really want or need any of the prizes but the group gave me the free entrance to next years AMA so that was cool ^_^. I think went back to the room and got changed into Shiki again so that I could take down the table. Just as we were about done packing up this girl ran up and wanted to buy the crocheted Ood (Doctor Who) that Pam had made. So it seems anytime we are packing up people decide they want stuff LOL. But she was very excited to get it and I'm not about to turn away a sale. Once we got it all packed up and somehow beat the rain that was starting to come down, we headed back to the hotel and got into Infinity to go to the bar.
It was the first time that we really wore the Infinity outfits as a group. I had two drinks but I didn't really like either one. It was really hard for me to finish the second one. We stayed up and just hung out for awhile and then headed to bed.
Sunday
Woke up and somehow got all my stuff packed up. I needed to unpack the artist stuff in order to pack the hotel stuff so it was definitely a two person job. Luckily Crystal was like my official helper all weekend. Plus Katie helped to get my stuff to the car since there wasn't any carts to be found. Got the table set up and just relaxed for most of the day. It was a pretty quiet day and I didn't mind it since I didn't really have much left to sell. I was dressed as MIku and absolutely froze behind the table but Everyone kept giving me clothes to wrap up in XD
Around 4 I got everything packed up and loaded into my car just as a storm was blowing in. I really wanted to avoid it but I ended up driving right into it. Luckily it wasn't for very long and I did drive out of it after about 1/2 an hour. That wasn't the only excitement I had though. I just picked up the phone to call my mom and tell her I was on the way home when I got distracted and ran a red light..right in front of a cop. I immediately pulled over since I knew I had done wrong. I explained to him that I was on my way home and my GPS had fallen off my window and I was definitely distracted and didn't do stuff like that normally. Well he let me off without a ticket so Hurray for that. It really was my lucky weekend.
Got home around 9:30 and somehow got all my stuff out of my car and into the house without any further excitement.
And that was AMA. It was definitely a good convention and I'm glad I went. I'll definitely go back next year if I can. Crystal was my life saver as far as the table was concerned. I got to cosplay with new people which was fun. And I just basically got to relax. I didn't have much of a set schedule or anything. It was definitely nice.
Next up is Otakon and I feel like I have a LOT to do for it. So no resting for me. I have some commissions to finish and get mailed out this week if I can. I have costume to fix up and finish. Its going to be a busy summer..but I really cant complain.
