Sakura matsuri

Sorry for the double post but this is completely unrelated from the last one..and yet not..yet is..anyway..

Is anyone going to the Sakura Matsuri in Washinton DC? Every year I say I want to go..and every year something happens where I can't. But I'm going to request off this year -_- I don't care what my bosses say.

But I don't know what days to go. Any suggestions? It takes 6 hours to get there..so obviously I'd have to figure out someplace to stay for at least one night (Deathgod??).

And yeah I'd probably cosplay because I'm a dork like that..but seriously..anyone going? Anyone know when the best day(s) are to go? I guess the main stuff happens on April 10..but there is an anime showing on April 3..I don't know.

I want to go too! I know Katie and them were talking about coming up one weekend. I'll ask them when they were thinking. It might have been the 10th although the crowds will be crazy that day...

I've seen maybe two groups of cosplayers there and they've amused me...the best days are the first weekend because there's all sorts of events, imo. Which I always miss, but still.

Go to where you can see the Jefferson monument (across from the holocaust museum), the cherry trees there with the river is beautiful. You get there by following the reflecting pool down and then past the Washington monument, hang a left. It'll be easy, there'll be hoardes of people to follow.

I'm going for the street festival which is when the most events happen but it is also when its the most crowded. If you want to just go and enjoy the blossoms with less people then going earlier is better as they're more likely to be in full bloom and you can get photos without people. I've done that a few times. But I also like to attend the actual matsuri which is for only one day. Uhhh forget the date off the top of my head. Its on the website though. And that day you have vendors and food but A SHITLOAD of people.

I actually recommend seeing the weeping cherry blossom tree that not many people know about as its in one of the gardens instead of where the rest of the trees are but its actually far more beautiful in my opinion and easier to get photos with as the branches lean over you and you can get actual more blossoms in the photo with you while the others tend to be a bit tall to get much in the shot with you.

But as far as wanting to see other cosplayers, the matsuri day is the best since that's when everyone will be out. Like I said I'll definitely be there in costume though if you decide to come earlier, I'd be all for a get together as its really easy for me to get there. And I can show you where the other tree is as its usually less crowded over there too and actually a shorter walk from the street festival than the rest of the trees are.

I took photos in Nihon Fai last year at the main trees during the festival and kinda regretted it as it was a long walk, I was tired, people were everywhere, and blah. I'll definitely let you know what I decide so we can meet up and just go be nerds somewhere XD I kind of fear the massive amounts of people..but I realize that is probably the most interesting day.

But I'd probably actually be going for 2-3 days since I don't want to drive up then turn around and drive back. 6 hours is too much for that kind of thing.

But once I figure it out..I'll let people know XD

Let me know. I was gonna put in my requests for the whole summer and I want to make sure I ask off for that weekend or week day..or whatever.

Just let me know ASAP so I can get my dates to my boss. They will be making that schedule probably next week.
